This is my Club, my one and only Club.

..this allows for expecting some would move on, and/or play ST or RW.

I’d still say it’s overstocked almost as much as our 8s.

Even so, that we’d end up using a player there who featured last season at CB must mean some mad squad planning and/or injury issues

Since the summer window began, we have had (at different points)

Werner
Son
Solomon
Gil
Moore
Kolo Muani
Richarlison
Johnson
Odobert
Tel

I think this all - even if it is all, and albeit quality is very variable there that is a massive number of players..

Without claiming causation, I would agree they must be the same people.

“Full overlap“ describes perfectl.

If you’re writing anything that ties ”the pragmatism fallacy” and “football centrists” together, that would be my catnip, I think.
January 21, 2026 at 2:53 PM
Also read that we’re now (something like) 20th in PL for through-balls attempted, which would suggest we have not been attempting to counter from the deep position we adopt.
January 21, 2026 at 2:49 PM
Agree we have been getting the worst of all worlds.

I have fond memories of Brennan Johnson in games where we’ve been ahead. I’m picturing at City this year and also last under Ange where he came on to finish a break by Timo Werner (!)

Not to excuse this at all:

We are a big enough club, have good enough players and have spent enough money and we shouldn’t be satisfied with this.

But it feels like perhaps this speculative theory is backed up by your data?
January 21, 2026 at 12:32 PM
..but also that we’d look turgid, slow and lacking in ideas in games where we conceded early or where a side, for whatever reason, chose to sit off us, as, thanks to player profiles, we will struggle to break sides down.
January 21, 2026 at 12:27 PM
You know what, I was reminded yesterday of this.

Early on under Frank, I remember thinking that us being a really good countering side (at the time) and lacking ideas meant we were likely to be successful and look great in games where we scored first. City away was a great example..

ProfSpur season ticket fund.

In our squad at the start of the season we had so many LW.

Wild that Spence is there.

(I’ll take it)

My favourite post on Bluesky to include the words “technically“ and “virgins” but that’s about Spurs.
January 18, 2026 at 10:20 PM
Agree absolutely.

I’d have wanted this before Gallagher - with Sarr as the right-sided B2B 8.

Hopefully it’s not Xavi to LW

Primary demographic, for sure

Someone criticising the behaviour of “angry, middle aged white men” should always be prepared for a response from TalkSport.

With apologies for the late reply, and huge thanks for this really useful and very comprehensive list.

This is a huge help - and we have updated reading lists here. We also renewed You Are History over the weekend and continue to (re)enjoy ☺️

Thank you so much , Greg!

Bet that goes down easily

Thanks so much, Greg - that’s really kind!

They’re 6 and 9 and enjoying reading about history. I’m sure we’d all really appreciate your recommendations - thanks so much!

It was rembering your name from TEI that made me pick up the book.

We have all enjoyed it very much in its own right, for clarity.

Thank you, @gregjenner.bsky.social for this.

I first became aware of you and your work via some discussion on The Extra Inch - but enjoyed finding and reading You Are History with the kids this weekend.
September 14, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Agree. I’d used “take” as shorthand here - it’s doing a lot of lifting in my post above.
September 14, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Sharing any take online always risks it aging like milk.

This is absolutely deserve, though - and the more so for Richy having responded with grace, class and football

He was also a good option for us (Spurs) at CB during the very worst of our injury crisis last season.

Could see him in a back 3 during the season and that’s a nice option for Tuchel during a tournament as well.
