That’s my thinking. Joelinton had a good half but it’s a different game now against 10 men. The match could suit Willock more. Villa are also desperate to get big Joe sent off.

Wasn’t sure at first but the seeing the replay has made me angry - that’s awful from Duran!!!

Don’t think Howe was responsible for the Guehi farce.

Ultimately Howe is a very cautious manager. Took 10 games to embed Bruno, he refused to over expose Hall last year. He has a reputation for nurturing talent which is not based on chucking in players for short term gain.

Limited resources though. We know he’s been crying out for a right winger and central defender and a premiership ready striker.

Sadly this is true

Next time you’re in the toon we can discuss more over a pint or two - and chat about My Chemical Romance, Blink 182 etc we’ve a lot in common. I’m knackered and going to sleep now 😴
December 8, 2024 at 3:27 AM
I modern football the success of a football club is much less on the shoulders of first team coach and shared by DoF, performance director, data analytics, club philosophy, etc, etc but yes it’s always much easier to point the finger at the coach.
December 8, 2024 at 3:24 AM
Absolutely not! But the issues run a deeper than Gordon and Tonali being rotated. Much more about mismanagement of PSR, failure to move on players at the right time and strengthen the first team squad.
All problems not created by Howe but ultimately limiting his options & ability to impact matches.
December 8, 2024 at 3:15 AM
also agree - but it’s the people holding the purse strings, who have been the most culpable of letting the side down recently.

Howe is the one left to pick up the pieces of failed transfer windows.
December 8, 2024 at 3:10 AM
This we agree on! We need to sell better and ultimately we’ve lost value in not moving some of these on earlier.

The caveat to this is there needs to be willing buyers.
December 8, 2024 at 3:08 AM
Same overeaction to Murphy starting against Liverpool.

Pretty sure the reactions weren’t from the people working day in, day out with these players trying their best to balance a limited small squad to the demands of EPL

And let’s not pretend Barnes didn’t score & Isak miss a sitter to make it 2-1
December 8, 2024 at 3:06 AM
I totally get it.

Maybe playing a knackered Tonali and Gordon could have worked - or it may have been worse.

Who knows?

It didn’t work and Howe deserves some stick, but I’m not going to over react!

We were handicapped before a ball was kicked this season and now we’re seeing the consequences.
December 8, 2024 at 3:00 AM
Agree that we could have been better - but hindsight is 20-20.

Wrong team selection? Same was said about inclusion of Murphy before Liverpool.

Subs - think we shouldn’t have brought on Tonali, Gordon, Tripps, Wilson & Almiron?

No plan B - despite 5 changes

Unwillingness to work with DoF - wtf 🤷
December 8, 2024 at 2:53 AM
Maybe it did. Ideally I’d like to see Tonali play the no. 6 all season and build a relationship with Bruno. Over time this duo is more than capable of overpowering all non-top 6 sides - but it takes time. On a game-to-game basis it can be hard to swallow, the bigger picture requires patience.
December 8, 2024 at 2:43 AM
Glaring holes in the squad and the starting eleven. However Howe is fully aware of this and wants to strengthened as much as we do. But he’s not in control of the purse strings. How many of the top 14 EPL clubs strengthened in the past 18 months? Answer all of them - except us. Is this Howe’s fault?
December 8, 2024 at 2:34 AM
I understand where you’re coming from, but your analysis comes only after the match. If you think the manager’s decision (with considerable staff, resources & data to analyse player fitness) thinks 2 of his most important assets need a break is worth less than your amateur analysis, heaven help us.

Botman!!!
December 8, 2024 at 1:58 AM
Howay Michael! This comment is beneath you. It’s a lot more likely that the PIF multi-billionaire business strategists have a more detached long term view of #nufc and don’t over or under react to every fixture and performance 🤷
December 8, 2024 at 1:18 AM
A scroll through your feed mate, tells me we agree on most things, so I’m not picking a fight. I just feel the club has not invested in the first team in the past 3 windows, which in real terms is taking the club backwards. Inconsistencies therefore is to be expected. Imagine if we’d backed Howe?
December 8, 2024 at 1:08 AM
Let’s not be a drama queen! At this point last season everyone was complaining the fit players were being over worked and Howe wasn’t using the squad enough. We could all see Gordon and Tonali were knackered during the week. What is the answer? Run them into the ground?? You can’t please everyone!
December 8, 2024 at 12:53 AM
Why? If Howe “doesn’t finish in a European spot” where do we point the finger? Has the club given Howe the resources over the past 3 transfer windows to compete with the other top 10 clubs in the league?? Short answer is no they have not. So what is the justification for Howe be the fall guy???
December 8, 2024 at 12:45 AM
I wouldn’t touch a single one of those above Eddie Howe. People need to get a grip on their expectations. Howe has not has his squad strengthened in the past 3 transfer windows,, yet he keeps us in touching distance of what only elite clubs can realistically achieve.
December 8, 2024 at 12:41 AM
Isak and Gordon goals don’t happen against teams playing a low block. However I’m encouraged by Tonali playing deeper with Bruno further forward, trying to find that killer pass.
