A series of transmissions recorded over a period of eight years in the 1970s.
It was a Sony & back then everything they made was built like a tank, I was still using it right up until I got my first Walkman for Xmas in fifth grade.

Looked a bit like this, different model but similar form factor

I saw this Jean Renoir quote last week (reskeeted by @howardtheduck95.bsky.social) & it's stuck w/me. He's talking about cinema but it definitely applies to video games.

Games were much more interesting to me when they weren't trying to be totally "realistic." Hyperrealistic graphics are boring.

No '90s soundtrack is quite as random as the one for Twister:

This trade was part of the '70s Fireside line. I'm pretty sure it was my intro to the comics FF (I was aware of the cartoon at the time). The cornerstone of the collection was the Galactus Trilogy, which made a big impression on me. "We're ants... ANTS!"

Still have it, pretty much indestructible.

Hey @dankmccoy.bsky.social: While watching tonight's presentation I couldn't help but noticing that in the background of the photo of your office there seemed to be some sort of trenchcoat-clad puppet or plushie on one of the shelves. What is it, if I may ask? Hoping it's Lew Archer Grover.

I understand, but I would gladly take abstract over whatever the thing on the right is supposed to be (obscure third-party Genesis cartridge art from 1992?)

I haven't read the SFC movie reviews since they got rid of the little man ratings

The Criterion disc comes with a mini-comic by the great Sean Phillips of Criminal fame.

If you were visited by three ghosts in Christmas Eve, who would you want them to be?

I would've preferred they'd gone w/this design

In a weird way those '80s video store posters/cover art for B-movies feel like the last gasp of posters as art

Like this cheap Terminator ripoff -- the producers got Giger to do the poster & moved a whole ton of units in the process

Me watching that trailer the whole time like

At that point maybe he just starts feeding his fortune into the thing

Forever on guard against the forces of irrationality & chaos

Maybe... just as well?

Thanks, but my ironic self-aware fairy tale quotient was satisfied earlier by another novel/movie

I wish more people knew about this one -- it's an extraordinary LP.

Not just my favorite movie of all time, but a clear influence on my wardrobe choices

Still, not a week has gone by since then that I haven't thought of this shot

Like something out of an old Beck video

"Two turntables and a microphone"

Yeah, I LOVE Ken Adam

One funny detail about Strangelove is that the surface of the table in the War Room was green felt, like a gambling table (get it?). Of course, nobody would know that from watching the movie.

I'll be there first thing on Thursday!
