Derby born composer and musician Percy Fletcher was born on this day in 1875. His suite “At Gretna Green” has never been recorded, but this digital recording was produced by LMS trustee Jim Cooke. #lightmusicsociety #sheetmusiclibrary

Possibly the best known of all light music Christmas works: Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride! We came across this delightful artwork for a vocal version of the piece in our Library. Did you know, the piece was actually written during a severe heat wave in 1946?!

Today we celebrate Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie, composer, conductor and teacher, noted for his works for the stage. Together with Parry and Stanford, he was regarded as one of the fathers of the British musical renaissance in the late 19th century.
