The Skerries lighthouse, located 1.9 miles off the NW coast of Anglesey, was first lit #onthisday in 1717, warning ships of the rocks and guiding them to Liverpool port. Its story is told in my new book Lighthouses of Wales. lighthouses.wales/lighthouses-...

I enjoyed sailing in to Dublin Bay on the ferry this week, getting great views of the lighthouses: Kish Bank, Bailey, Poolbeg and North Bull.

Another good day with the Association of Lighthouse Keepers tour of Anglesey. We went to Holyhead Breakwater lighthouse, where we climbed the tower, and also to the disused Admiralty Pier/Salt Island lighthouse at Holyhead Port.

#OnThisDay in 1998 the flag was lowered at St Ann's Head lighthouse, Pembrokeshire, as the keepers were withdrawn and it switched to automated operation. It was the second last in Wales to have full-time keepers; they were withdrawn from Nash Point soon after. lighthouses.wales/the-lighthou...

The Guardian featured the films of Oscar-winning actress Julie Christie. Her mother Rosemary was co-author of the seminal book "Lighthouses - Their Architecture, History and Archaeology" with Douglas B Hague.
