mature is the word. now "mature" and "sly stone" sound like a terrible combo, and this *is* less exuberant, but its still fun, only matched with an ominous intensity and some sick psychedelia. some of the shorter songs are a bit dippy, some of the jams go on a bit-

genuinely shocked how much i liked this. weird transition between the showtunes and the soulless soul; its still not completely soulless and it semi rocks but not really? the omnipresent sax is a bit much (especially given david sanborn *sucks*) but the sleazy, grotty vibe-

a meh concert from a meh tour. the hours stuff works much better but it just sounds so generic; if, idk, thursday's child came on the radio id genuinely enjoy it, but if it werent for the vocals id never guess it was bowie, it sounds like everything else from 1999

mid-tier live miles. more assured and tight that in europe, at the expense of some ferocity, but the stunning version of my funny valentine would make it worth it by itself. sam rivers is a great saxophonist too, a lot more unpredictable than coleman

gorgeous, bleak piano pop album. not one to listen to if youre already kinda depressed. or maybe the perfect one

just a great live album by a great live performer on a great tour. love the outside stuff, interesting track selection beyond that, not quite as good as liveandwell but a fab performance

its a second great quintet album, so as usual i couldnt make heads nor tails of it on first listen. i like the grooves though, and the huge shifts in mood and vibe within country son instantly make it a classic

baroque pop par excellence. gorgeous, ridiculous, schmaltzy and creepy, sometimes all at the same time. a voice you could listen to read the phone book

eh. i dont like huge jazz bands bc they all play over each other. some cool atmospheric stuff but not enough that stands out, although ill need to relisten

melodic, sad indie-rock album that deteriorates into an utter nightmare. never quite heard anything like it, fantastic portrait of a decaying relationship/life. the song that sounds like its fighting to be heard over horrified screaming encapsulates it perfectly
