V actually does most of the dirty work and is willing to put herself in a negative light if it means keeping those dear to her safe.
And in N's case, she shielded him from the truth, trying to keep her distance, thinking that this protects him

She was traumatized by the events of the past that she partially remembered, and in fact, I assume that her cruel side is just a mask. Which is very clearly broken in the final episode in the hallway scene
