(Screenshot of a Google doc: text to follow) Eddie Diaz did Not believe in soulmates. How could he when he had Shannon. She was the love of his life, it didn’t matter what any silly mark said. They didn’t match? So what, only 45% of the world's population ever found their soulmate. It used to be a lot lower but after the rise of social media and the broader connection to other countries it rose. Even still that is less than 50/50, Eddie didn’t like those kinds of odds even if he believed in the crap anyway. He had a good thing with Shannon, they loved each other, they had Christopher, and yeah Eddie he did some running but he came back and he loved them. He would continue to love them and keep their family strong and together. But then Shannon left, signed divorce papers on her bedside table. After a year and a half, the invitation arrived. With a small personal note to Eddie with it. Shannon had found her soulmate. A doctor at the hospital where her mother was getting treated. They had met and it felt different to Shannon—it wasn’t like meeting anyone else in the world and then one day Shannon caught him while he was leaving the hospital, short sleeves replaced his normal long ones and there on his bicep was the same soft brown mark she had on her hip. The one that Eddie always ignored. He always hated that thing. (Screenshot of Google doc: text to follow) Why do you hate Soulmates so much? Like, if it was just because your ex left you because she found hers that would make sense but…you told me that she left you before she found hers…so, why?” Buck gestured his hand open towards Eddie, vaguely waving at his soulmark. “Ah” Eddie smacked his lips together and looked away, he started to fidget with the shirt still in his hands, twisting the fabric around between his fingers, “it’s complicated. I mean. First off, it sounds ridiculous that there is only one person in the whole world you’re ‘made’ for. Because we aren’t made for people, we are people. And I had something good with Shannon, it–it wasn’t perfect but we loved each other and, no matter what anyone says it didn’t end because we weren’t soulmates.” his voice started to pick up in volume as he spoke, and his fists tightened in his shirt, the words tumbling out of his mouth, “the universe doesn’t get to decide who I love. I do that. It’s my choice.” Eddie gasped as at the end of his speech Buck was close, gripping hold to Eddie’s hand stilling their nervous movements. “I get you, I do.” Buck quickly said, dipping his head to catch Eddie’s eyes and throwing in a calm shoulder shrug, “I mean. You’ve seen Bobby and Athena, they aren’t soulmates. Sure…it’s because their soulmates both already died…but they're happy. That's proof to me.” Buck let his own words stumble out of his mouth, as if he can say the words fast enough Eddie will believe them faster. “Sure I like to believe in soulmates, and I…really want to find the match to this thing” his eyes turn upward in reference to his mark on his eyebrow, “but, it’s not like…a soulmate is the person the ‘universe’ picks for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pick someone else too.” Buck held Eddie’s eyes as he said it, a small closed lip smile to add to it. Eddie chuckled, shaking his head that turned into a nod.
