🦋 The Papa Lab, based in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 | Cracking the developmental blueprint of life through comparative multigenomics. We study two native butterflies—𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑢𝑠 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑎 & 𝐷𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑥𝑖𝑝𝑝𝑢𝑠—to understand how genes shape form and function.
In today’s busy and fast-paced world, Dr. Guillermo N. Armaiz-Pena is a researcher you want to pay attention to! Just yesterday we got to hear his insightful talk about the link between biopsychosocial factors e.g. anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression and their effects on cancer progression.

Last week we listened to Dr. Brenda Santiago’s talk exploring how calcium signaling shapes vertebrate development. Using zebrafish and single-cell sequencing, her research maps Ca2+ dependent genes that can give insight into human related diseases such as cancer, diabetes, autism and kidney disease.

Meet Camila Sánchez!

A postbac in Riccardo Papa’s lab studying wing development in 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒖𝒔 butterflies. Using FISH technique, she tracks where and when genes like Wnt3 are expressed—mapping the pathways that shape wing color patterns.
