It’s my book! And it matches me! (Just got the copies in the post.)

Now making jelly with the foraged fruit and some windfall apples from the garden.

The kids and I went hedgerow foraging today! Got a lunch box full of crabapples and another full of blackberries. They got bored pretty quickly when they weren’t scoffing blackberries, but it was a good day! They enjoyed playing in the meadow nearby too, the long grass was good for hide and seek!

Meanwhile, I've raised over £300 for Cancer Research UK so far with my 100 squats a day for August! My hamstrings are starting to feel it, heh.

I wear video game dresses!

Got a little too stuck into the @staffsgames.bsky.social CPD games jam and have been busy with it today (I'm the main coder on the team and PICO-8 isn't great for collab sadly) - we're doing an endless runner! Todo: collision checks, boosts, devil actually catching you (game over)!

I have a full, slightly buggy, game!
To do: levels, fix the bug where they stand still if someone else finishes the food, fix the bug where the sprite doesn't change if they're eating, fix the instructions so they're less janky.

Now that the teaching term is over, I would like to post this poem that I saw recently.

I updated this while on the reception desk for the afternoon at @staffsgames.bsky.social GradEx today. Food spawns, chickens will eat it (and it disappears after they eat enough of it), they face the direction they're travelling, and they will sometimes look like they're pecking the food.

you can now pick up chooks and hoist them above your head. Also the chooks move about. Very basic AI, they randomly pick a direction and go that way for 10 ticks. lol

just enjoying writing code that involves an array of chooks. This is a WIP and I am still learning, be kind <3

This is pretty fun. I'm going to remove some of the decorations for now as I plan to add in a food mechanic, but this just makes sure it looks pretty

"What did you do at work today?"
"I drew pixellated chickens."
"Oh."

Not very often you see your Morris Dancing team show up on a slide as part of a case study for genius loci in games #BDiGRA25

Fascinating lightning talks at #BDiGRA on roguelikes by @cgislam.bsky.social, queerness in British games studies, trans emergence in games, ecogaming and some very pretty diagrams from @jarona7.bsky.social about affective encounters in games

Chickens had a nice day today while we cleaned out the sand pit! Found a huge stash of monster slugs so they had a field day. Hard to wash slug slime off beaks though 😅

Happy Easter! We came back from our holiday a day early due to big kid illness but he was perky enough to do an Easter egg hunt in the garden with the little one. Thankfully the Easter Bunny was flexible 🤣 Glorious day for it!

Built a tumbling insulated composter/digester today to try to reduce food waste as our bin is only taken every 2 weeks. The compost from here will go on our open bin with chook bedding and poo & grass cuttings for great compost. #gardening #compost

The chickens have decided spring is here and started laying again!

I’ve been at Schloss Dagstuhl this week working on a manifesto for the future of games research. It’s been an exhausting but very stimulating and exciting time, and I’ve met lots of excellent people! I look forward to finishing up our work and sharing it with you!

Cancelled my @washingtonpost.com subscription thanks to the new directives for the opinion columns from Jeff Bezos. Sorry to the hard working journalists doing their best, you were why I kept it up for so long, but this is the only way to voice my displeasure at his meddling.

Wales was beautiful today.

This is just so short sighted, I'm so cranky. I'm sick and I'm cranky. The worst combination.
