Kirk’s original Constitution class Enterprise was already out of date by the time he was lost in the Nexus and I have SO many feelings about that ship particularly being “home”.

Gotta keep your cool, Spock…

The first book was about feeling like a dinosaur in your own time, aging out of the field you love, being rootless. This second book goes further and is asking what do you do when your life and career get derailed, when your friends have changed, but also asks “should Data finally say a bad word”.

They’re *so fun* and so weird. The first book was “Kirk has a midlife crisis” and this one is like, Star Trek does the Manchurian Candidate.

I think what I really love about this book, and to an extent the first one as well, is the way they deal with how Kirk is deeply afraid of growing older.

Jim just woke up and he’s already in the doghouse.

Kind of obsessed with Sarek’s katra showing up because he melded with Jim who has melded with Spock and because Jim needs some one…

Not only that but Kirk thinks *Spock* has come to find him and can we talk about the parallel there where Scotty thought Kirk would’ve found a way to rescue him, and how Spock was always convinced that Kirk was still out there, and meanwhile for Kirk that person is Spock.
