Recently retired after 43 years at the Phoenix Public Library, I research and write about pro basketball history.
And the last page of issue 164 is actually Cockrum.

Here's Byrne's page that went unused.

It's like those plaid, violet NY Giants baseball uniforms from back in the day!

Head-to-head 60 g -

Hondo - 38.6 Min, .436 FG%, .816 FT%, 7.6 Reb, 5.3 Ast, 22.9 Pts
Billy C - 35.2 Min, .439 FG%, .711 FT%, 10.0 Reb, 3.6 Ast, 21.5 Pts

Hondo had the benefit of playing with (slightly) better players. I think Boston's playoff success and him playing longer is the difference.

My third book was THE BASKETBALL DRAFT FACT BOOK (Scarecrow Press, 2013). A complete listing of drafts for all the men's and women's leagues, it made hundreds of additions and corrections to the NBA's published draft list. I loved everything about this project except for the price.

Next up was my second edition of the COMPENDIUM OF PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL (Xaler Press, 2010). The second version let me make corrections and additions, and tweak the layout. And yes, even now, 14 years later I'm still working on a third edition.

I followed up the Compundiun with some work on TOTAL BASKETBALL (2003, Sportsclassic Books). John Grasso and I compled the statistics and wrote the chapter on early major professional leagues, which basically spanned the first half of the 1900s.

My first published work came out in 1999 - THE COMPENDIUM OF PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL (Xaler Press, 1999). It was nearly 10 years of work compiling the information for it and it led to my organizing The Association for Professional Basketbal Research (APBR.org).
