We recently celebrated spooky season 👻 and the start of sweater weather 🧥 with a fall installment of the new “Hands-On” series. More than 50 attendees joined for a crafternoon of autumnal activities, including pumpkin painting, ghostly garland making, and creating seasonal suncatchers. 🎃

The book brings to life the extraordinary travels and experiences of Henry Hornbostel.

Sir Thomas Elyot's Latin-English dictionary (1538), was the first book to be titled a "dictionary". It was a pioneering work based on a humanistic approach, introducing many words into English. 📜

Happy #MadHatterDay! 🎩 Inspired by "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland."

DYK...the phrase "mad as a hatter" comes from the late 18th-early 19th centuries when haberdasheries used mercury nitrate. The exposure to this metal over time caused them to develop symptoms making people believe they were mad.

Research on AI literacy and its impact on education is an emerging area, and it’s rapidly evolving. When our #AI specialist and #STEM Librarian offered his first interdisciplinary research course, this was the topic he wanted to give @cmu.edu students the chance to explore. On 9/17, the @cmu.edu community gathered in Hunt Library to celebrate #ConstitutionDay 📜 with a hands-on, drop-in workshop.

Guests crafted their very own pocket-sized U.S. Constitution and the League of Women Voters were on-site to help new PA voters get registered. library.cmu.edu/about/news/2...
Two students use pages from discarded magazines and other craft materials to decorate the covers of their Constitutions. Executive Assistant Anne Kramer and Development Associate Najah Magloire flip through pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution. Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences junior Zach Berger, who is a Voter Engagement Intern majoring in Social & Decision Sciences, staffs a table to help attendees register to vote. Attendees enjoy snacks while working on their hands-on activity.
