Like an expansion of George Carlin's 7 Dirty Words

McWhorter, a linguist, goes deep into academic etymologies to explain where several of our favorite *taboo words came from.

He is very funny and a huge theater nerd. I learned so much!

Highly recommend!

A friend and I set to work adding and rearranging. As the day wore on, several items mysteriously joined the scene.

A coworker met me in the hall by the staff room and asked while pointing, "Did you do this?"

"Um.....yeah."

How did she know?

Today, staff got to see (not touch) a 28-star American flag that was in use from July 4, 1846 to July 3, 1847 - the one year between Texas and Iowa becoming states.

It will be framed and on display for the America 250 celebration at the State History Museum.

I was reminded of this post on Saturday when a complete stranger approached me in a restaurant and complimented me on my tattoos. He was so lovely and the lady with him had a radiant smile.

If they had been there sooner - we probably would have bought their dinner.

How does Woodson pack SO MUCH in just 196 pages?!

This story follows 2 families from an unplanned pregnancy through that baby's 16th birthday.
We are treated to the families created, the joys celebrated, and the dreams realized.

A stunning story.
Highly recommend the full-cast audio.

Loved listening to Michelle narrate her early and family life with Barak.
Very charming.

Hearing her speak with such love about serving the public, feeling a call to action, sacrificing things for the good of the country - it was like a salve.

Also, fun insights into the presidency!

A remix of Kendi's book for a younger audience.

It is accessible and interesting and heartbreaking.

From Zurara through Obama - this book covers Jefferson, Malcolm X, Angela Davis, and more.

I loved it. Finished it and started again immediately.
SO GOOD!

The audiobook is amazing.

4 and 4 are 8
8 and 8 are 16

There are 4 novellas in this book, and so many genres are represented!

Historical fiction, science fiction, detective thriller (with Holly Gibney!), and a realistic piece about a writer who is writing a western! That last one has a bit of horror, too.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

Delightful discovery: My brothers and I, over the last 40 years, and living in three different states - all use our childhood home phone number in various password situations.

We learned this randomly at a family gathering. Mom was surprised. Us, not so much.

In 5th grade recess,I read Judy Blume's Forever aloud to many Lutheran school kids. Someone told, and I got called into the office for a talking to.

Rat, may you forever regret censoring my freedom of sharing information at that young age.
You are the problem, rat,

Me, to another customer at the thrift store: How many black and white polkadot dresses is too many?

She: Well, I'm a Disney fan, and I think Minnie Mouse, so I say never too many.

She may not have been as convincing as she expected.

Did not buy.
