I had a dream I found myself in an alternative universe & my journey began finding my dog as a stray, shivering on the street. Broke my heart because he was indeed a stray & he’s just the sweetest doggo. I hate thinking of him being alone and having to fend for himself. So now, It’s cuddles o’clock.

Just finished “Gemini” by Jeffrey Kluger about the middle-child program between the venerated Mercury and Apollo missions. A quote: “Without Gemini, Men would have never walked on the Moon”. As a space nerd, I really enjoyed this one.

50 years ago today, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank 17 miles from safe harbor in Lake Superior. I really love this haunting cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s indelible song by the Punch Brothers - youtu.be/DhTRNU1mnVA?.... I also highly recommend the new book “The Gales of November” by @johnubacon.bsky.social

My dad passed on this day in 1983. He was a month shy of his 35th birthday. He’d be 76 now #fuckcancer

We never have leftover candy. Usually the teens would clean out the bowl. Must’ve been too cold tonight.

I was there! Was cheaper to fly to Denver for games 3 and 4 than it was to get a single ticket at Fenway in my backyard.

Just finished the powerful “Gales of November” by @johnubacon.bsky.social on @libro.fm. A powerful book w/ wonderful history of Great Lakes shipping and of the methodical research and retelling of the events leading up to and storm that took the Fitzgerald on Lake Superior nearly 50 years ago.

Over the weekend we took a roadtrip & listened to the next book in the Poirot series, “Black Coffee” on @libro.fm — actually a novelization of Christie’s play, authorized & completed after her death. Don’t think it was turned into an episode, but elements of the story we’ve seen in other episodes

Another fast listen via @libro.fm - “The Mystery of the Blue Train” by Agatha Christie. I like comparing the books with the adaptation from the David Suchet Poirot series, and this one had a lot of differences as well! A good deal happens in the books before Poirot even appears!

I finished a 2nd book this weekend, another in @andysmithmn.bsky.social’s #PresidentsBookClub “The Life of Andrew Jackson” by Robert V. Remini. I was not looking forward to reading about Jackson and am glad to move on past him.

Kate & I have been slowly watching the David Suchet Poirot shows on #Britbox. We’re finally on the final season. I’ve been reading the Poirot books in order & just finished “The Big Four” on @libro.fm - Can’t wait to see how the show adapts the epic scale of this story, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Watching HBO Max’s “Finding Amelia” to see if they also find the Epstein Files!
September 27, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Finished “The Shadow Docket” by Stephen Vladeck on @libro.fm - book just made me angrier and angrier as chapters progressed. #ReformtheCourt

Sorry I can’t get up for remote work right now, because Barnaby is having a snoring nap after our long pre-dawn walk this morning

Finished another in @andysmithmn.bsky.social’s #PresidentsBookClub, the engaging John Quincy Adams by James Traub. This quote thoroughly describes the complex JQA: “example of a great man in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the right motives and a tragic inability to make himself understood”

Finished the audiobook of “Poet, Mystic, Widow, Wife” from @libro.fm abt looking at lives of medieval women through the lens of writings of four women writers: Marie de France, a poet; Julian of Norwich, a mystic/anchoress; Christine de Pizan, widow & court writer; & Margery Kempe, a “no-good wife”

It’s Woodward Dream Cruise day. At this hour, I can already hear revving engines and we’re about a mile from Woodward. It’s going to be hot and muggy today. We’re sticking to the house and to locales far west from Woodward today #DreamCruise2025
