Assata Shakur taught: freedom builds outward. Her passing opens grief, but her legacy endures — demanding that repair be collective, that memory be justice, that our freedom is bound to others’. We honor her by continuing the work.

30 years may have passed, but our fight persists. In this 1995 interview, Nkechi Taifa spoke to the need for reparations and also highlighted many of the systemic challenges in the Black community back then that still exist today.

Starting today, the LV team will be on Wellness Week.

The President wants to erase the telling of our history at the Smithsonian. This undermines a key component #reparations, Reckoning. As Leah Wright Rigeur shares, “ it tells a story that is very much about a quest for democracy and the way that Americans built this country.”

Black August is an opportunity to learn the history, achievements, and lessons of Black abolitionists and civil rights leaders. We affirm that reckoning and #reparations are the truest path to freedom and equity for generations to come. Thanks @getfree-mvmt.bsky.social for the education.

On Aug 10, 1988, the U.S. apologized and paid redress to Japanese Americans for WWII internment. This is #reparations in practice. We’ve done it before. We can do it again. Repair is not a dream, it’s a decision. #Reparations

Today, we recognize what would have been the 84th birthday of #EmmettTill. Emmett's tragic death launched a movement. But he should be alive today. If we are to move forward and create a nation where that truly embodies the value of freedom, we must recognize and repair the harms of the past.

We’re still dreaming about the 3 days of strategic thinking and restoration we spent with 130 #reparations leaders last May in Cali.

Baldwin's words from 1963 guide us: we must "achieve our country"-not the one that exists, but the one that must become. Grateful for this community. #ReparationsNow

In 1863, white mobs killed Black New Yorkers in the Draft Riots. But white merchants quickly raised the equivalent of $800K for care and legal aid. It wasn’t full justice, but it was repair. Repair and #Reparations are possible in the past AND today.

We are still basking in gratitude from our Liberation Ventures 5-Year Anniversary celebration this past May in Santa Cruz, California. Together, 130 leaders, supporters and funders in the #reparations movement built authentic connection to ourselves and each other. #ReparationsNow

True freedom requires repair.

If we are to have a multiracial democracy that works for all of us, we must start by making racial repair a reality in the United States today.

@getfree-mvmt.bsky.social‬ raised flags on Juneteenth to resist the MAGA regime’s whitewashing of history. This is a demand for reckoning. We must defend Black and Queer liberation.

Reparations won’t come from Washington—they’ll come TO Washington. And we need funders with the vision and courage to invest in repair.

Read “If not us, who? If not now, when?” to learn our plans for building momentum and make #reparations common sense and commonplace.
