got to see some very inspiring sights; now if only I could transform that into written words

WIP Wednesday: 5k into a silly modern AU for a NEW fandom
screenshot of Google doc, reading: It’s not a busy evening, and the restaurant’s other handful of patrons are all seated at the bar, fruity drinks in hand. Beyond them, boats’ lights twinkle on the water, and their masts waver against the bright points of starlight. Unfortunately, the next establishment over is hosting karaoke, or it would be a peaceful evening. “Fancy a little company?” An unfamiliar voice says. Startled out of his contemplation of the menu - despite knowing that he will order exactly the same dish he enjoyed previously - Francis glowers up at the interloper. Every other table is empty. If he’s fishing for a handout, it’s an odd gambit, and the man standing beside his table looks far too posh. Francis makes a noise that is certainly not acquiescence, but the man clearly interprets as such anyway, pulling out a chair and dropping into it at an angle. His long legs stick out beside the table, clad in pale, pressed linen trousers, a flash of skin visible at his crossed ankles, over equally fussy boating shoes. Eyes trailing up the matching button-down - tucked into the trousers, emphasizing a narrow waist and kitschy fabric belt patterned with fish - Francis takes in the short sleeves, starched collar, and first few buttons carefully undone. This fellow won’t last a day on the water, if that’s what he’s on the island to do. “James Fitzjames,” the man says, offering his hand across the table. Francis takes it automatically, helpless against the painstaking manners of his origins, and tries not to glare at the fellow’s easy smile and prettily curled hair. “Francis,” he says. “And Neptune.” Neptune raises his head at his name, and the man coos, leaning down to give him a good pet. That improves Francis’ opinion of him somewhat, but the posh vacation catalog get-up leaves a lot of ground to make up.
