Chana for book club tonight. I’ll make fried green chiles and a chunky raita, and some fresh garnishes, to go with. Dishoom’s recipe, in which chickpeas are simmered and soaked overnight in strong English breakfast tea, is the most complicated chickpea dish I’ve ever made. Probably worth it.

My trip opened up a whole world of colorful chaat-type possibilities. Made a sweet potato and papdi chaat for breakfast. (Shortcut because I’m lazy and hungry: store-bought chutneys and papdi.) It’s not Dishoom, but it’s very good.

They love their Penguin clothbound classics over in England (hi Heartstopper Isaac’s life goals!), as well as the Archive line. And of course type-treatment cookbook covers—very few with photography!

All of these amazing feats of computation could’ve been accomplished by a few good pre-AI Google searches. Probably just as quickly, and definitely more cheaply and less resource-draining.

Today I had a truly fresh Zagnut—my favorite candy bar—for the first time. Even in their spiritual home of western PA, they’re usually relegated to the dusty, forgotten corners of the candy rack, but this time I grabbed one from an unopened bulk box. Transformative experience, highly recommend.

A/c died for good a few days ago, I’m in survival mode (fans, strategic opening and closing of windows, etc.).
