It’s not so much that I’m afraid of Pale Fire as much as I want to take in some of the lesser known works beforehand.

McCoy: “My god Jim…do you not know what death is??”
Kirk: “Well, Bones of course I do. But I’ve heard the phrase cheating death. It seems like one could cheat death as easily as I did the Kobayashi-Maru. I assumed all these men cheated.”
….
Spock: “I’m not touching this one. I’m out.” *Leaves

The Zack Snyder way always seemed particularly weird to me because it’s a visual medium replicating a visual medium and it almost always looks like shit.

I agree. I do think there’s also an issue with adaptation discourse where the priority is usually fidelity to the original text where I prefer Kubrick’s method of shaping the story to make as interesting a film as possible.

*I call it Abrams Trek because Kelvin is too inside baseball for most people. Lol.
On their own terms, I still really like the first half hour of the first movie, Then I think Into Darkness is one of the worst of the films and Beyond is kind of fun, if a little stupid.

I’m also talking to Liberal supporters who say I’m wrong when I tell people Mark Carney is super right wing because “he’s the Liberal party leader.”
