There are four types of guys online. No exceptions…but a disproportionate number of Rimmers.

Happy #letterboxdFriday. Had a day off last week so managed to get in a religious horror double bill. Also in anticipation of Sentimental Value I finally completed the Oslo Trilogy which I don’t recommend doing in reverse order.

McCabe AND Mrs Miller? In this economy?

In rare, actual good news, I managed to snag a ticket to a screening of Yasujiro Ozu’s Late Spring at Bath’s Museum of East Asian Art!

Been having an Alien rewatch before checking out Romulus and finally reached the nadir in Resurrection.

Feel like it speaks to the film’s lack of care for the character that it was 50 mins in before I saw a decent shot of Raymond Cruz and exclaimed: ‘Oh hey, it’s Tuco!’

I will be sad that he is gone but grateful to have lived in a time when his greatness was recognised.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday! #LastFourWatched

Busy week so none of these are particularly recent but at least I completed the Three Colours, kicked off this year’s Almodovar marathon and confirmed that Derickson is a director I want to like, way more than I actually do.

Man, Netflix’s Christmas offerings this year are even more dire than expected. Ditched That Christmas after five minutes and would have probably done the same to Hot Frosty were it not for the best efforts of the Nine-Nine’s finest.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday!

Goddammit, Michael J. Fox. Until yesterday my #lastfourwatched quite nicely demonstrated the diminishing returns of an Apple+ Subscription.

made for great hosts and 1990’s Buried Alive was a great subject!

Jesus, this goes quickly from your standard possession horror to one of the grossest, grimmest horrors I’ve seen in years!

Quote-skeet with the last pic of you before the world changed four years ago. I had finally started getting work on-set in film and TV. I took a job at my local Picturehouse during the usual quiet winter.

Things weren’t perfect, but they were good. The everything changed.

Monster: Not a big Kore-Eda fan but this had some promise. Less a modern day Rashomon and more a blurred look at the joys and cruelties of childhood.
Compelling performances from Ando and the two child leads but a disjointed plot gives the impression of something missing.

Evil Does Not Exist: I can handle The plodding pace Hamaguchi applied to Drive My Car. Here it seemingly serves the idyllic setting until the minimal story takes a wild left-field turn that briefly sparks before fading to nothing.
