Sun splitting the sky 🌞 and john lambie stand packed to the rafters... can only mean one thing: play-off jags season 4 🇧🇪

After 12 years at Stirling, I'm leaving the University in July to take up a new post at Strathclyde in August.

This has been the view from my office window for over a decade and I'm going to miss it almost as much as the wonderful friends, colleagues and students in Pathfoot.

Finished this belter of a novel on my sunny train ride earlier. Just as full of intrigue and feisty, fearless characters as The Unpicking. Hugely looking forward to chairing the launch on 30th April (details in 2nd image) and hearing more from the wonderful @badsvillebroad.bsky.social

Frankly baffled that my lunch of steak bridie and fudge doughnut doesn't seem to have given me a productivity boost...

Genuinely gutted that Doolan has gone. An absolute legend of Partick Thistle, but the time had probably come. His name will still be sung at Firhill though! 🇧🇪 🇧🇪

The 6yo's verdict on the most Christmassy of snacks: "they taste like burnt pizza crusts"

Loved this one -- 'Munichs' by David Peace. Combines the capturing of voice from Damned United with the interest in repetition/form of Red or Dead. Probably my favourite of his football novels and certainly the most moving.

One of the younger lads at footy has started calling me Stuart Bannigan and I've never been more delighted by a comparison.

On a bit of a Highsmith kick at the minute. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how gloriously naff these 80s covers are. Although they did retail for only £1.25 (😱) so guess we can let them away with it...

Whilst reading Chris Paling's account of navigating the industry, left, I grew fascinated with the novel he was struggling to publish, right. It's a great read -- full of twists and quirky characters BUT also lumpy moments which show why some editors passed on it 📚 Two extremely interesting reads!

This wee dude is just hanging out casually infusing my tea. What a legend.

Made a lemon meringue pie for the nearly 10yo (as an early birthday present for Thurs) and I'm rather chuffed with the result 🍋

Finished this one a week or so ago and been thinking about it (and listening to the cracking album that goes along with it) ever since. As lyrical as George Mackay Brown and reminds me of Sara Baume's wonderful Spill Simmer Falter Wither in its character study too. Highly recommend!

This one is an absolute cracker and only out this year! Set in the top of the town at the start of 20th C and full of a sense of place/history...
