Overall I do see mainly positives from a world which can use social media as a great tool, but in moments of frustration at trying to reach audiences sometimes I think I’d prefer to exist in a pre-digital art world.

This image comes from my own idea that the increasing use of bots will eventually lead there to be interactions solely between bots, something that I’m sure already happens, but eventually losing all human interaction.

Major concert tickets sell out to bots ran by re-sellers, the same happening to any popular product, from Nike releases to more recently Pop Mart’s Labubu’s.

Alongside AI’s ability to deceive audiences for no other reason than to generate interactions, bots are used to data farm and have entered almost every aspect of any online experience, often negatively.

The comment section is filled with those calling out the AI nonsense from a page called ‘Faithful’ however there’s also more than a fair share of those offering their condolences to the ‘baker’ with no ability to determine the image as a fake.

In February 2025 it was reported that the most interacted with post on Facebook for the previous month was an AI generated image of a bread horse and its supposed baker, alongside the text “I made every detail with love, but it seems like no one cares”.

As a visual artist it has become essential to use these platforms to present my work, however in recent years its become more and more difficult to fight bots, AI images and promoted content to get your own works seen, even by those who already follow you.

In true meme format I have taken this image and the text as a jumping off point for a work about the increasing prevalence of both bots and AI on social media.

He states “Can You Imagine A World Without Lawyers?” whilst imagining a world where everyone is holding hands, dancing in peace under a smiling sun, before shuddering in disgust.

This image is painted in the style of a Simpsons meme, and references a clip from Season 4 of the show. Episode 21; Marge in Chains aired in 1993 and features a line said by the family’s budget lawyer Lionel Hutz.

I immediately drew similarities in the photo and images of Madonna and Child from a huge array of Christian artworks. These images show the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, a comparison which seems especially relevant when considering the location of Bethlehem is in the West Bank, Palestine.

..More than 100 aid organizations and human rights groups warned on Wednesday that “mass starvation” was spreading in Gaza, as the United States said its top envoy was heading to Europe for talks on a possible Ceasefire and Aid Corridor.”

“Naeema, a 30-year-old Palestinian mother, carries her malnourished 2-year-old son Yazan as they stand in their damaged home in the Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, on July 23, 2025…

Whilst searching for images I found a photo appearing on a variety of news outlets sites. The image taken by photojournalist Omar El Qattaa was shared on his own Instagram on July 23rd alongside this caption;

Having previously made the ‘Wake Up, A House on the Beach is Not a Dream’ painting I wanted to continue to make work, not just about Gaza but about the UK, US and other European countries complicity in the genocide by allowing arms sales to continue to Israel.

This painting, made to imitate the boards around a construction site takes influence from this social media ‘joke’, with windows into the site showing images of the current genocide accompanied by logos of weapons manufacturers mainly based in the UK and US which still supply Israel with arms.

The image was soon removed after backlash in the media, with the company admitting it was not a real plan and the owner claiming that it was “somewhere between a joke and wishful thinking”.
