I don’t think replacing Rice with Merino shows a deep squad.

We’ve got a massive gap there - not just about quality but it’s running power.

For two EPL proven players like that, given the forward situation, the stakes we are playing for - who cares if we overpay a bit? It’s inevitable given our summer.

Ferguson meets every immediate need and he has big underlying talent also. That one would have to be at right price.

Very selective response. Ferguson available to buy, Duran on his potential might be overpriced but massive talent, Marmoush remains to be seen, Boniface high potential and young also.

Watkins and Cunha clearly had some possible availability noting the reliable sources.

Duran going to Saudi, Felix to Milan, Ferguson to West Ham, Boniface almost to Saudi, the Watkins discussion, the Cunha situation, Marmoush to City, Tel to Tottenham.

There were options. All at a price of course, but we can’t say no one was available.

Great - superb risk management from a club with a legitimate chance of EPL and/or CL still.

If Kai Havertz pulls a hamstring - what’s the strategy Adam?
February 3, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Maybe - but recruitment is a club thing, not just a single person.

What are the wider factors do you think James?

Looks to me that the Kroenke’s have changed their ambition and Tim Lewis and co exercising a far less ambitious strategy in the transfer market.

I can’t recall the last time I saw Josh speaking about Arsenal.

Thanks - Nico Williams update is very concerning regarding the club ambition. Something substantially changed in the summer.

We are in a forward player crisis now. This is a long-term target, he’s available (but expensive yes) and we still won’t do it.

“January is a very difficult time to purchase players”

If teams replicated last season's results in their equivalent remaining fixtures this is how the points tallies would look:

84 Arsenal (-5)
83 Liverpool (+1)
79 Man CIty (-12)
76 Chelsea (+13)

60 Aston Villa (-8)
59 Newcastle (-1)
57 Spurs (-9)
53 Man Utd (-7)

Good point - I really hope we do it as Arteta needs to make some hard squad management choices.

I do not think it’s viable to play the first team (or a variation of it) in all competitions.

Current Newcastle over 2 legs is a pick ‘em tie anyway, even with our first team.
December 27, 2024 at 7:53 PM
Yes but honestly I don’t think any of the other academy players can come in for the attacking positions. There’s no one else
December 27, 2024 at 7:43 PM
Honestly looking at the injuries and these fixtures - is it even viable to take the Newcastle and Manu cup games seriously?

Would get pilloried to not go for them, but I don’t see where the rest is coming from otherwise?

Especially Newcastle - we need that two match tie like a hole in the head.
December 27, 2024 at 7:36 PM
Yes - but we need a body if only to stop total burn out. I mean we actually don’t have any back up specialist wide players in the squad now, whatsoever.

Given Partey is still our only rotation for RB need to keep him for that. Jesus we need to keep starting and let that momentum continue.
December 27, 2024 at 7:29 PM
Might have to be chaff. If Mikel wants to play Kai and Jesus, then we can’t have a bench with one 17 year old attacking midfielder as our only change option. Untenable given we are in 4 competitions and we will blow up.
December 27, 2024 at 7:23 PM
Have to get another attacker in. Looking at the bench there’s no option.

Love him - would be flying past people and opening the game up for us

17 EPL goals the season before and he just turned 27 in October. And he averaged 12 EPL goals/season for 5 years.

So it’s more whether he’s physically gone down a level (probable) or the underperformance is something linked to poor Manu team?
December 11, 2024 at 6:37 AM
I’ve seen him track back historically. It’s only during this last period under ETH where he started to behave very strangely.

The question for me would be is it physical or is it mental? If the former then totally agree a total no go.
December 10, 2024 at 5:14 PM
Fair enough. Do you think he’s lost some pace? Does seem a bit less explosive than 2 years ago.

I believe he’d run backwards for Arteta. Something seems to have broken for him at Manu recently.
December 10, 2024 at 5:13 PM
What’s your concern with Rashford?

If he’s at a decent price worth a bit of a punt surely? Or do you think he’s done?
December 10, 2024 at 4:21 PM
How come? Quick, skilful, scores goals, EPL ready. Probably 2 good seasons left in him
