Every day a new atrocity in #Gaza. And still the UK supplies lethal weaponry to the Israeli government. There is a term for this: complicity in genocide.

When Earth's temperature breaches +1.5/+2C depends on our emission choices and on the T during the pre-industrial era. Due to changes in the way we have measured ocean T through time (tinyurl.com/3trsfbrj) pre-industrial T is uncertain. Palaeoclimate offers a way to reduce this uncertainty (1/2) 🧪⚒️🌊
Is the world 1.3°C or 1.5°C warmer? Historical ship logs hold answers
Diverging estimates of 19th century ocean temperatures drive uncertainty over global warming

Happy Isotope Day everyone! 🥳On this day in 1913 Nature published Federick Soddy's paper "Intra-atomic Charge" www.nature.com/articles/092... in which he introduced the term "isotope" (coined after a dinner conversation in Glasgow with Margaret Todd the classics scholar). how will you celebrate?🧪⚒️🌊

Recently observed an increasing number of papers where no mention or thanks is given to either the reviewers or editors in the acknowledgments. I find this a tad rude and disrespectful given that people are giving up their time to provide (hopefully) fair and constructive feedback for your benefit

One silver lining of this election is getting incompetent toffs out of influential cabinet positions. Having rich parents pay stupid amounts of money to send you to school should never be a gateway to power.
This is great from the Guardian:

Analysis by the Sutton Trust suggests that Keir Starmer’s cabinet will have the highest number of ministers educated at comprehensive schools, and the lowest proportion in modern history who went to private schools.
