If you want an overkill automatic solution, could set up a scheduled git/svn commit to sync changes daily.. Alternatively I think OneDrive for example has built in version control, so there might be something similarly easy for local folders, too?
The OD one is file based, not folder based tho iirc.

While a remote Git is probably the best way, if this works for you it's probably the next best way I can come up with - given that this is more or less the simplest way to quickly restore a backup.
Git mainly allows you to revert changes between "backups" and make them more frequently easier.
