Having spoken and argued with many "apolitical" types and enlightened centrists, this seems to be their default modus operandi. That and obfuscating everything by always trying to find middle ground and obsessing over nuance.

People quite literally get paid to be anti-communist/socialist, many capitalistic governments have made it part of their brand to greatly oppose the only ideologies that actually pose a threat to their greedy rule. They're incentivized to convince everyone that only their system works or is "good"

If wasteful spending means providing things for people who need them, then I say 100% of government spending should be wasteful. We, the workers, are the ones that generate wealth, and that wealth is being siphoned up by the capital-worshipers that rule over us.
