To Louis's point, YIMBY in California didn't gain the power it as in Sacramento by refusing to compromise. Quite the opposite: many of the bills that eventually passed saw major modifications. I see a lot of leftist critiques of YIMBY in SF and CA that frame it as a simple assertion of power.
