Sorry to hear about Chester,, but he did have a good life. We lost our Edamame last March, about six weeks before she was to turn 17. She was also a rescue of sorts. She was a Jack Russell/pub mix. In her early years, she needed endless exercise. I got to like multiple long walks each day.

FWIW, it was written by an elderly physical chemist.

Reminds me of a song:
"You can't love the Lord in a vacuum,
away from creatures of every kind.
To love the Lord, you must love all creation,
in act and deed, not just in your mind."

Then we have the "pure" leftists who basically elected Trump to support Jill Stein and Bernie Sanders' "hurt feelings". It's time to grow up, kids. "Destroy the System and greatness will rise from the ashes" didn't work in the 60s and won't work today. Less than good is better than obviously evil.

Basically, there's no such thing as an honest, moral Republican. It's about time the News Media starting posting the facts. Yes, I know Susan Collins will furrow her brow, but after all, she is responsible for, among other things, putting a frat boy/rapist on the Supreme Court.

FWIW, folks in the greater Boston area are always welcome at the "Reading People for Peace" monthly vigil this coming Saturday, 10 Jan, on the Reading Town Common from 11 am to noon. We've been vigiling regularly for close to 25 years, beginning when the Bush folks were threatening to invade Iraq.

Isn't it time that people realized David Brooks is a fraud? His "deep thoughts" are crap. Why do people think he offers anything of consequence? In olden times, when RSS was still actually working decently, I read a lot of Brooks. The guy pretends to be "moral", but his views are clearly amoral.

It's about time an actual journalist pointed this out. Generally, they just say, "Trump says..." while never pointing out that whatever he says is almost certainly a lie. Basically, so-called legitimate journalists, NYT, WaPo, NBC/CBS/ABC, etc can't be trusted.

Generally, Epiphany is Jan 6 (the 12th day of Christmas and the day the Magi visited Jesus in the stable), so perhaps MTG is planning on having an epiphany of some kind, a realization that she's been a bit off the mark on almost everything. One can always hope. ;-)

The Bernie and Jill folks wasted votes, thus depriving Hillary of votes that would have won her a few highly contested states. Also, a number of Bernie Bros either failed to vote or voted for Trump. www.newsweek.com/bernie-sande...
Bernie Sanders Voters Helped Trump Become President
Bernie Sanders supporters didn't just stay at home, they voted for Donald Trump in significant numbers last November.

Not surprising, because Bernie and Jill Stein basically elected Trump the first time because Hillary hurt their feelings.

Why, exactly, does David Brooks have a following? Back when I read his columns, I found them all (the ones I read) to be steeped in intellectual dishonesty. The guy is either a moron, or totally lacking of moral character, the latter being weird given that Brooks claims to be highly moral.

"Even as you have not done it to the least of these, you have not done it to me." Matt. 25: 45. Seems that all these so called Christians in the GOP/MAGA crowd don't understand the Bible.

Why in hell can't we get some decent journalists take them to task on their heresies?
October 30, 2025 at 2:33 AM
Any honest interviewer would hit up Bernie for his having — along with Jill Stein — basically elected Trump the first time, just because Hillary hurt Bernie's feelings. Bernie has shown he doesn't give a sh*t about anything but himself. In that way, he's no better than narcissist Trump.

I asked rather a number of people at the NO KINGS gathering in Wakefield, MA where to sign up for my check. No one had a clue. I guess I just got to have fun for free. I'll certainly be back for another gathering, check or no check.

Bernie Sanders (and Jill Stein) basically elected Trump in 2016. Bernie should be publicly shamed by every honest interviewer for this "lapse" of his (apparently, Hillary hurt his feelings). While I likely agree with Bernie on many things, no decent human being should pay him any attention now days.

Thank you for pointing out that ignoring Matt. 25, is _not_ a Christian value. I wish more people in public life would start asking the likes of Mike Johnson how flagrantly lying about people (back up quotes easily available) is consistent with loving one's neighbor or not bearing false witness.

It's obvious the dumb f**k hasn't walked down the coffee aisle at his local grocery store recently.

How is it possible to be President and be so bat-shit ignorant?
October 20, 2025 at 2:26 AM
I'm an elderly person who still wears a coat and tie to church each week, who also sings in the choir, and who also is still married to his first spouse (for umpteen years). Obviously not some Communist, America-hating weirdo. But, I'll surely be present at the NO KINGS gathering (Wakefield, MA).
October 16, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Any chance we might be related? It would have to be several generations back. For example, might you be related to Thomas Piper and Hepsibeth Jewett, who married in Rindge, NH around 1786? ;-)

I'll going to a small town in MA. How do I know that my presence will be counted? I'm too old to go into Boston, so it's the closest suburban town for me, which appears to be Wakefield. To get there, I'll have to walk down along a lovely lake (Quannapowitt) for a half mile or so. An added blessing.

I think, perhaps not. I was a 1950s student, and was taught to understand bigotry and lies. I'm not sure that's still happening today. Eisenhower boosted public education. After Nixon, the GOP went after education. I lost a job in education (2011) because I couldn't pass kids that didn't read. WTF?
October 15, 2025 at 3:15 AM
Basically, as old folks, all we watch on regular TV these days are Red Sox games. Not sure if we'll watch any regular TV between October and April. Perhaps a Patriots' game? Certainly not basketball: those bastards don't know how to dribble properly...at least according to the rules of the 1960s.😉
