Yes, but he shows that solidarity by reinforcing what many people believe is the natural hierarchy; outting his Dad as benefitting from the exploitation of their labour; and it's patronising to refer to the folksy wisdom of these farmhands.

Reality IS imperfect. But that promo was cringe

Of course I understood what it was meant to convey, he obviously wanted to show unity.

I'm just saying that if you actually think about what it's celebrating, and the system that we're asked to applaud it's pretty gross.

He wasn't working 'alongside them' though, was he? He was the son of the farm owner.

If he'd said "some of my best friends are Mexican" he'd be pillorised, but revealing that his Dad employed Mexican people is somehow a heartwarming liberal message??

Not the flex he thought it was

And You Stole the Sun From My Heart is still a piece of shit. I said to a friend, considering they've played it at enough every one of the 10-15 gigs I've seen them at since 1998, I don't think there's any other song I hate that I've been forced to listen to more times

However...

"The world is full of refugees
They're just like you and just like me"

Is still the worst line the band have ever written. I believed that in 1998, and now I'm an immigration solicitor working with refugees I hate it EVEN MORE!!

I really felt that "Oh you're old I hear you say/But that doesn't mean that I don't care" line for the first time.

Also, Nicky Wire was 29 when that album came out. I'm so old now that my partner being 29 would be problematic

But... seeing it live in Manchester last night, probably for the dozenth time, I think its beauty really resonated with me for the first time. I still don't love it, but it might make #92 next time
