Allowing for the breadth of human experience and etc., but it seems unusual for people to hold much truck with their tastes and convictions at age six beyond the age of, say, eight.

Eh, I didn’t see either of them until I was a teenager, and it was *really obvious* that Star Wars was really good and Phantom Menace was terrible.

Getting older has mostly made me think that a Star Wars prequel *or* sequel series was bound to kind of suck.

Yeah, it’s nothing like those on so many levels. You could see these impulses in the GOP electorate and culture during the Bush II years, at the very least, but the actual Administrations were not capable or interested in doing what Trump has done and is continuing to do.

“There’s maybe a 7% chance that I was indirectly responsible for ‘Ellen and Ben’” seems like an ideal amount of fame in this world.

This is a joke from an old mailing list that eventually got published in a GW book, and it’s the closest thing to an answer we’ll probably ever get.

Is this from a book somewhere? I always thought the “weapon from the DAoT” thing was more of a fan theory.

I finally watched ‘Lifeforce’ last year after a lifetime of hearing about it and still almost can’t believe it exists.

Did you get him to choose a Legion yet?

It’s *extremely* era/source-specific, IMO. Taken as a whole, I don’t think there’s a huge difference between 40K and WHF greenskins, and the differences of portrayal in one generally carry over to the other during any given era.

Probably less hostile than Rogan was going to be, tho. The audience largely did not want that interview going well for Harris. Rogan knows his audience, and he will give them what they want.

Now he’s the cool guy who lame Kamala wasn’t brave enough to sit down with because he’s too real and etc. Total brand boost.
June 3, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Then there’s the downside risk where some of his already fairly Trumpy audience starts to turn on him if he doesn’t draw blood, saying he was too soft on her, how he gave in to campaign demands, he’s “gone woke”, etc.

It’s way more valuable for him to have things go the way they did. So they did.

Yeah, I think that’s likely part of it. Even absent that, though, it’s probably not a very good show? Him trying to elicit spontaneity and controversy, her resisting and trying to keep things sanitized, it’s just tedious and boring.
June 3, 2025 at 3:07 PM
I think a lot of the discussion on this underestimates how much Rogan and his crew likely didn’t want her to actually be on the show.

One thing I’ll actually give ‘Force Awakens’ is that it did seem to get this in a lot of ways. Lots of other problems with the movie, but that was a bright spot.

Cranky Luke/Rey makes for a pretty solid A plot, it’s the B & C plots that really bog it down.

I am aware, at the margins, of what happened to him, but it’s still kind of mind-boggling to me that this is the same guy I followed on Twitter back in ~2020.

I guess I am confused as to what the point of getting legislators on board with things is if not to, at some level, legislate?
January 8, 2025 at 10:00 PM
I would suggest looking up all the wild legislative achievements of the 115th US Congress to see how that actually worked out for them in a somewhat similar context.
