I read about 2/3 of US grain exports are through the gulf. Most will have been on barges on the Mississippi River. Since the majority of goods used for manufacturing in the US travel up the river & all truck/rail traffic crosses the river, the economies of many red states are tied to NOAA data.

Oh, and quite a few of the scoopers and chinooks are from Canadá and México.
