You know when people say that Salah's basically a pseudo winger, more like a ST? Yeah...

Not like he was our widest player against Leicester or anything.

Me at the leftovers.

Rice's pass map Vs Fulham in the first half btw.

Fulham's mid-block is actually filthy.

But that is exactly the issue: Nunez isn't getting the shots.

He's taking a similar number of shots/90 as Curtis Jones.

Haaland is extremely streaky. He scores a bunch of goals in a short period, the goals dry up and his underlying metrics come back in line with his actual output.

But that's fine. You put up with it because at the end of the day, he still scores - he still does what's expected.

At a basic level, the ability to produce shots is good, but so too is the ability to produce good shots - which he has shown he's capable of.
December 5, 2024 at 12:16 PM
Our team isn't tailored to his shot-creation strengths - which is probably a good idea based on the wild consistency of his finishing.

But he previously was able to produce shots at an anomalous rate - seriously, 4.7 shots/90 is not normal.

We pressed Man City in a number of ways/shapes on Sunday.

I found it really interesting that in the first 20 mins, Liverpool sometimes used an aggressive 4-1-4-1 shape - similar to what we used under Klopp.

Alexis Mac Allister found a brilliant balance between progression and retention against Real Madrid - as he has often done (Opta pass map).

Look at how well he kept the ball in the left half-space.
November 30, 2024 at 1:52 PM
Have a watch out for Madrid pulling apart out two deeper midfielders to grant a passer from deeper time and space on the ball to play to Mbappe (maybe Bellingham), similar to the Jackson goal for Chelsea at Anfield.
November 27, 2024 at 2:53 PM
Mac Allister has to be a starter. The tradeoffs of gambling on the consistency of others isn't something we can do in a title race.

Salah by far deserves MOTM, but Slot said it best - win your duels first and foremost.

Saw this on Twitter and just thought I'd bring this monstrosity over here.

Fabinho clearly not a fan of the NFT midfield. Would've thought Thiago would be an immediate choice.

And he also rotates back into midfield from defence.

But could we see the 6 drop between the CBs and allow one of the eights to evade pressure in deeper zones? We've seen a back three in buildup before with the FBs (among a number of buildup variations), and Tchouameni likes to drop into the backline.
November 14, 2024 at 1:43 PM
You'll definitely lose some of Grav's incredible press resistance with another player in there, but it would be wrong to suggest that Tchouameni isn't capable of picking the right option under pressure in certain phases.
November 14, 2024 at 1:43 PM
Tchouameni's successful/unsuccessful passes against Real Betis this season (sixth highest defensive line) - mix of probing, progressive and retentive passes.
November 14, 2024 at 1:43 PM
Grav's successful/unsuccessful pass map Vs Aston Villa - not loads of successful progressive passes.
