Just another cowboy trying to find his place in the wild, untamed expanse of the web.

CSS wrangler, mechanical keyboard maestro, and music maverick. Wildly passionate 'bout 'em all! 🤠🎸💻
It’s a shame, because at one point I felt like the BBC was high quality partially because of how direct it felt. Could be looking at the past with rose tinted goggles.

Nowadays it does feel like the tricks used by clickbait sites to get visits are being used by pretty much every news source.

Honestly, I was a web designer, then a web developer, then a front end developer, then a front end engineer, then a software engineer.

I'm still just a web designer, making websites. Designers are still just designers, designing. Everything else is essentially just feeding the ego in a fun way.

I have this armchair theory that all people (especially cis/het white men) are on a constant quest for absolution. I.e. to signal "I'm not one of the bad ones!" Which also seems to blind people to the concept that they may be both a victim and a participant in various problematic systems.

Yes! My wife told me she used to play a game of trying to find the most hilarious "Waitrose Essentials".

Yes exactly! Makes me sick really, because I genuinely believe that these people think they are on the right side of history with these awful takes.

The common thread seems to be immense privileged and detachment. I.e. it's much easier to act in a way that is bigoted when you are disconnected.

Could be an awful take, I don't know how to phrase it better to be honest! It feels like within the Guardian readership there's actually a lot of people with left leaning social values but otherwise they align quite heavily with the more conservative ideas.

I am a lefty, but I will say that increasingly I am noticing articles in the Guardian which seem a little more "shops at Waitrose, owns two houses and a Land Rover, goes to Extinction Rebellion protests, kid has a yurt in bedroom" lefty vs the normal experience. I guess a little out of touch.

My gut feeling is showing likes may just be noise! I love what you're doing with the site.

Also, I feel like client is logical, but it's easy for things to get out of hand without any checks on bundle size. Which is why putting stuff on the server is a more "don't have to think as much" option.

Welcome to the blue sky app!

It’s an extremely valid perspective/impression! I agree that the fighting people seem to do over it on every other platform is a bit tiring. Nothing worse than inheriting a project where everything is an unmaintainable mess too!

Have followed the art and science of CSS in websites/apps since fairly early on, going CSS -> BEM -> Sass -> Styled Components -> Stitches, but really I think tailwind is just pretty misunderstood.

For some it can be a super helpful abstraction, for others it just doesn't feel like the real thing!
July 3, 2023 at 3:30 PM
Shall we do the first one? I hated tailwind when I first discovered it, thinking it was just "css for backend devs who don't like writing CSS" or "bootstrap-like"

I've since done a total 180, and have written some of the cleanest/well maintained code of my life with Tailwind
