Trees Committee of Friends of Lewes - planting trees and looking after them - for us, for wildlife and to improve resilience to climate change. We are an accredited Arboretum Town!
16 more #trees planted around Convent Field, #Lewes, by our team today! They are 8 Sorbus thuringiaca Fastigiata, (Hybrid Whitebeam), and 8 Prunus padus, (Bird Cherry). We planted 30 trees there last Sunday and will be back next weekend to plant 11 more.

We planted 30 #trees around the perimeter of Convent Field today! Later in the month we have 26 more to plant, thanks to generous sponsorship and support from Lewes District Council, Lewes Town Council, @friendsoflewes.bsky.social, the Mosaic Project, Chalk Cliff Trust and #Lewes residents.

Another beautiful Liquidambar! This one is at the end of Church Lane, #Lewes, and the carpet of leaves was a lovely reflection of the colours on the #tree.

Continuing our inventory of the #trees in #Lewes- this enormous tree at the front of St. Anne's Church has been identified by Peter Thurman as Phillyrea latifolia, (Green Olive Tree).

Yesterday morning we had a lovely walk around #Lewes to map some more trees for our ongoing #tree inventory. With the expert guidance of Peter Thurman we recorded some real beauties, including this Red Oak, Quercus rubra, next to East Sussex College.

There are some wonderful shiny berries on this Cockspurthorn #tree, (Crataegus persimilis prunifolia), that we planted at the edge of Nevill Green in November 2023. It was sponsored by #Lewes Footpaths Group in memory of John Vokins.

A stunning Ginkgo biloba #tree in the front garden of a House in Barons Down Road, #Lewes. The gentleman who lives there was just coming out to mow the lawn and he said that his mother grew it over 20 years ago and gave it to him when it was only a few inches tall!

We are very pleased to report that we have just received grant funding from Lewes Town Council!
The money will be used to fund our next #tree planting projects in #Lewes in November.

The berries are ripening on this Whitebeam #tree with very large round leaves at the edge of St.Pancras School playground, #Lewes. Thank you to Peter Thurman for the ID - Sorbus thibetica 'John Mitchell'. Apparently the berries have a good flavour!

A lovely range of bright colours on this Norway Maple (?) #tree in #Lewes High Street - compared to during the summer when it looks quite dark and gloomy.
