Recovering journalist, humanitarian, hiker and history buff. @unhcr.org communications officer in Canada.
Meeting young refugee rights advocates is one of the most rewarding parts of my job at @unhcr.org. Speaking at the Refugee Parliament Conference, organized by @mcgill.ca students, was inspiring. I shared UNHCR's work and my journey from asylum-seeker to humanitarian worker. #RefugeeParliament

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Matthew 25:35
As many Christians celebrate Christmas today, let's keep in our hearts refugees who just like Jesus's family were forced to flee their homes.

It’s great being back at my alma mater, McGill University, for a workshop on strengthening the participation of internally displaced people (IDPs) in decisions that affect their lives.
And it’s wonderful to see artwork made by Honduran #IDPs as the backdrop to these important discussions.

As the dry season starts in Sudan, my colleagues are reporting a spike in numbers of people fleeing to South Sudan following fighting close to the border.
Over the last 19 months, more than 866 thousand people have fled the carnage in Sudan to South Sudan. (Photo by Marie-Helene Verney of UNHCR)

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, I want to share Fatima's story.
She's a Sudanese refugee I met in Chad.
Her son was killed in front of her and she was brutalized so badly, she passed out.
We see you.
We hear you.
We believe you.
You are not alone. #16Days
