English professor, writer, all around nerd, geek, idiot, and whatnot.
Tina and I visited the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Libray this morning. I got type in a replica of Vonnegut’s Barnstable, Massachusetts office.

Conservative talking heads: The new Superman movie is too woke about immigrants and is clearly an unfair critique of Trump's immigration policies. Superman was never meant to be that political.

Superman in the 1950's:

January, 2026: in a bookstore near you: from James Aquilone & Monstrous Books: The paperback edition of "Kolchak Eras", collecting prose stories (including my "Wolf's Clothing" in which Carl hunts the Georgia Werewolf) covering Carl's life.

As Carl said: "Kolchak's coming back in style!"

I taught @tcboyle.com’s “Greasy Lake” to my ENGL 1102 class a few weeks ago, and showed the kids this picture. They asked if I hoped to be that cool when I was in my seventies.

I said I’d be happy if I were half that cool.

The newest (2010) version of the silent film Metropolis came in the mail today. Incorporating 25 minutes of previously lost footage, at 148 minutes it’s the closest to the original 153 minute cut we’re likely to get.

Can’t wait to fall asleep watching it.

I’m still less than half way through writing my hardboiled Hamlet novel, but the final scene of an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street (Season 4’s “Map of the Heart”) helped me figure out the ending.

Reading a prequel to The Great Gatsby bc Gatsby’s 1 of my favorite novels & Nick Carraway 1 of my favorite narrators. It’s strange tho bc it’s a rlly good book but an awful prequel: this Nick is nothing like Fitzgerald’s character.

If it were abt Hemingway’s Nick Adams, tho, it’d be near perfect.

@dirkmaggs.bsky.social : I finally found a reasonably priced copy. I’ll be bringing it along when Tina and I visit Winchester in May, so have a nice signing pen on hand.

I’m helping the editors of Nosferatu Unbound, an anthology I recently contributed to, drum up some reviews.

Want to give it a whirl? I’m looking for Amazon/B&N reviews, blog reviews, or similar.

If you’re interested PM me for an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks @cmpriest.bsky.social for visiting my Southern Lit class a couple weeks ago to talk about The Toll and also for the copy of Cinderwich! You rock all around the clock.

Everybody else: read her stuff. It’s all the best.
