#SmallGameStudio The crunch definitely took its toll on my body (basically had to pull 2 all-nighters 😆) and some of the polish on my game. I didn't manage to get the dialogue system I wanted in but that might be something I tackle over the summer!

#SmallGameStudio Oh, and since I didn't manage to upload my trailer last time, here it is for all to enjoy: vimeo.com/958050295?sh....

#SmallGameStudio Must I Really Save The Princess? is now live on Itch! The last few weeks have really been tough for me and I had to cram on it in the last few days but I'm happy with how it turned out!

#SmallGameStudios ...definitely need to dedicate some crunch time to get this all in by the final deadline next week. Hopefully, GDAC's playtesting sesh tomorrow'll help with that in some way.
June 4, 2024 at 10:28 AM
#SmallGameStudio Another thing I want to do is to get the rest of my art in, particularly animation sprites. Dialogue is also going to be really important, so I need to get on that ASAP. Unfortunately, I am super busy this week and one of my classes will be having an early final on Thursday so...
June 4, 2024 at 10:27 AM
#SmallGameStudio I definitely want to get menu transitions in combat done by the end of the week. This'll help the player visually in terms of knowing when turns start and end, and also injects a bit of juice into the overall gameplay!
June 4, 2024 at 10:24 AM
#SmaGameStudio I just realized I forgot to do my Blue Sky posts for the week so here goes my rapid-fire thread about some ideas for my plans for the week!

#SmallGameStudio I've gotten my grid generation to work! It ignores all obstacles in the way as well, so there's a neat way to prevent the player/enemies from moving into them in combat. Now to actually code the battle system 😭
May 30, 2024 at 1:43 AM
#SmallGameStudio I wasn't here on Thursday but I experimented with a few things for my combat system. I think eventually it'll be a sort of tactical turn-based grid system in the vein of Fire Emblem but I still have a lot of code to go through before that actually happens. Might be too ambitious lol

#SmallGameStudio Been a busy weekend but I've finally started on a little bit of my game. I found a nice little tileset on the Asset Store that looks great for what I was aiming for. Right now, I'm trying to get all my mechanics in but movement and collisions in 2D seem to be working well.

#SmallGameStudio Working on a basic pixel art knight sprite for my final project! It's my first time really doing any sort of art for my games so it's been a little bit touch and go on my end, but hopefully it'll turn out ok. Stay tuned for more art updates!

#SmallGameStudio Not me trying to finish up Project 3 over the weekend... 😅

My proof-of-concept was pretty much there by the time of the playtest, now I'm just trying to build levels and see what devious tricks I have up my sleeve 😈

#SmallGameStudio I won't have time to finish my game to show by tomorrow unfortunately (life stuff sucks😭) but here's a little sneak peak of my Project 3 Game: Master and Disciple!

#SmallGameStudios This is Freedom Bridge by Jordan Magnuson (jordanmagnuson.itch.io/freedom-bridge). The way your character's movements change and the sound of the river gets increasingly more intense as you play really adds onto the "juiciness" of the game, complementing its narrative as a whole.

#SmallGameStudio This is Do You Love The Color Of The Sky by devirtualized (devirtualized.itch.io/do-you-love-...). It's a relaxing, abstract game where you create galaxies with just a press of the button. Does anyone know what the colors represent? I'm still a bit lost on that 😅

#SmallGameStudio I played this small little game called melt by linseyray (linseyray.itch.io/melt). It's a game about intimacy, represented by two constantly moving circles that get closer or move away on a click of the mouse, which sort of mimic the phases of a human relationship imo.

#SmallGameStudio A little sneak peak into my Project 2. Currently at 900+ lines of code and estimated 75% done with the main scene. Working with state machines can be quite a piece of work at times.

Also, if anyone has any better suggestions for the main font (not the title font), I'm all ears!

#SmallGameStudio Did you guys know that Bennett Foddy (creator of QWOP, Getting Over It) has a doctorate in philosophy, and did research on drug addiction? I wonder if that has anything to do with his knack for making fun, yet rage-inducing games?

#SmallGameStudios Anyone have any suggestions for dungeon-related fonts? I'm trying to get the right text feel for a choose-your-own-adventure game for Project 2!

#SmallGameStudio I'm seeing a lot of posts confused on where to start with coding for Unity. Unity has a series of videos on its website that teach you how to work with C#!

Unity also has a bunch of documentation to allow developers to work with its API. Definitely check it out! docs.unity.com

#SmallGameStudio A behind-the-scenes snip from my Project 1 setup. I was really inspired by the iterative level design of Silent Hill: PT and I arranged my level in a similar way with multiple iterations of the same apartment that subtly (or not so subtly) change to tell a story!
