Letters From A Witch

Letters in a bottle set out to sea, a few words from a witch to whoever might see.
Yes, exactly! I have a box of German words that describe in a single word what would otherwise take English users at least a sentence or two to convey. It’s fascinating! Is there a particular word you enjoy?

Oh my gosh, thank you! I am so absurdly delighted to learn that this type of snow has its own word! I really enjoy words that, on their own, can still illustrate an entire scene. It’s why “defenestrate” has been my favorite word for a long time. 🤩

Haha, what a great duo!

They’re so beautiful!

I hope you enjoy the workshops! I’m self taught in almost everything I do, but having expert guidance when it came to weaving was ✨magical✨

Oh my gosh, that’s incredible!

I have been informed by multiple parties that it is *looks at notes* “super weird” to keep hair and teeth.

Has that stopped me? Absolutely not. Now I just don’t tell them that I’m keeping the hair and teeth.

Weaving is so fun, I love it!! I have my rigid heddle, and I have a floor loom that I have almost finished fixing up! I took a weaving class (it was an 8 week course) from my local yarn shop, and it was worth every penny!

“Working too many hours to learn how to paint like you’ve always wanted? Just use AI!” And while you learn less and think less, using AI to compensate, then the people who made this system MAKE EVEN MORE MONEY. (Not raging at you, just raging at *gestures wildly*)
January 22, 2026 at 11:40 AM
Right?? And what sucks is that it’s all intentional. If you’re too tired to do more than just survive outside of work, then you’re more likely to find it “worth it” to pay for the convenience of delivered food, easy entertainment, etc. and the same people who set up this system make even more money.

The difference in our opinions seemed more about personal preference, and I liked reading your thoughts on it. If you’ve thought about reading the next book, it’s a new cast of characters, and leans more heavily into the magic. A little less tidy (more emotions to wrangle), but still a nice escape!
January 22, 2026 at 11:17 AM
No worries, I totally get why you reviewed it the way you did. There is plenty of need to suspend belief! Like you said, successful canned goods business so quickly, like what?? I didn’t mean to sound like I was arguing any points, I was just enjoying discussing the book with you. ☺️

I also listened to the audiobook, and I really liked Meep too! And Caz of course. It’s been a while, but I remember liking the baker as well.

I tend to predict things accurately too, so I’m usually pleasantly surprised when I get it wrong. It feels like a treat to not already have guessed the end!

Loose threads tend to bother me because it means I can’t just finish the book and walk away. I have to tug on that loose thread, unraveling everything along the way, trying to tease out what needs to change to fix it. I have enough of that in the real world, you know?
January 22, 2026 at 3:33 AM
You know, I did wonder about Caz’s fear as well, lol. And you’re right, everything is neatly squared away! All problems having such a tidy solution is something that my book preferences have been critiqued on before, haha. But reading is my escape, so I love all the threads being tied in the end.

Finding a book with the written down “assumed” knowledge, and lots of practice were what finally made my cooking enjoyable to eat, haha. Sadly, I have not yet found that kind of book for gardening. But the struggle of learning practical skills from books alone is one that I have experienced myself.
January 22, 2026 at 3:23 AM
Funnily enough, this was completely believable to me due to personal experience! Books on cooking and gardening are mostly just recipe books. Meat+Pan=Meal. But if you don’t know basic meat prep, then the meat is going to be bland and unevenly cooked. (Of all my cookbooks, only one taught prep. 😣)

The majority of the fish that hang out with me in my pond are some flavor of neurospicy, no matter what scales they’re sporting. I suspect I might be just a little too intense for many of the neurotypical crowd. I don’t mask very much outside of work.

What are the plot holes you found? I recently listened to the second book from the same world, and it answered a lot of the questions I had, but I don’t remember any particularly glaring issues within The Spellshop. I’d love to hear what got to you in particular!

Thank you for the suggestions, I’ll have to give a few a try!
January 6, 2026 at 9:17 PM
Thank you! This is a cool one, and your’s is looking great!

Ooo, what’s the name of this pattern??
