Why is this new Suncable proposal not in the spotlight?

Clearing 493km2(ie 49,300ha) including 360km2 of bilby habitat with 53 sites identified where bilbies present/likely present?

Submissions close 25 November.

Classic ABC Rural disappearing the reasons why not to mine the Great Artesian Basin and the international dealers in pin striped suits profiting from global water mining. (Although Sorghum’s for cattle is bad enough!)

Here’s photos of aquifer levels and songlines traversing the GAB for the record.

A community coming together and taking action!
“Buffel grass has taken over so much land and we’re losing biodiversity.
This is a real crisis, and while we can’t turn back the clock, we can protect the areas we still have”.

Yes that photo was from just north of Ti Tree but it’s getting like this pretty well wherever there’s buffel. These photos are from between Mt Isa and Cloncurry. The same. You can see buffel replacing the spinifex in real time and smoke in the horizon from fires.

Angatyepe, Honeymoon Gap is one of the most beautiful and loved places in Central Australia.

30 days ago the upstream was devastated by another buffel fuelled fire. Most of the old rivergums have burned to the ground.

Example of our Insanity.
Biosecurity just one unnecessary cost and risk.

Inland Australia is collapsing from #buffelgrass invasion and the intense, frequent fires it fuels
Buffel springs back after the fires (this is 19 days post fire) - it is known in Pitjantjatjara as mamu tjanpi (devil’s grass)
Governments are still encouraging pastoralists to plant it - devils.

Smother, burn, repeat.
Just 19 days after this fire the buffel is rising up again and many trees are dead or severely harmed. This ecosystem is collapsing under buffel grass invasion.

Biosecurity governance is our quietly captured disgrace
It’s main players are profit driven and complicit in destroy biodiversity (the best defence against pests and diseases)
3 steps:
2. Clear native vegetation
3. Introduce invasive pasture grasses
4. Saturate the country with pesticides

Driving from Charters Towers to Cloncurry.
The entire way has pretty much been cleared and planted with buffel grass.
How are we letting this scale of destruction happen?
This is not food security and nutrition and economic responsibility, this is ecocide.

Mparntwe Alice Springs burning due to buffel grass again. The old trees are disappearing :(

Meanwhile the cattle industry can and does seed buffel anywhere except in SA

Great new review describing the many ways altered fire regimes harm species (and country).

From here it highlights the many tragic pathways by which buffel grass invasion destroys.

Buffel Grass (Cenchrus Ciliaris) has not been prioritised for biocontrol because of 'low biocontrol prospects'

Meanwhile govt and industry are spending millions researching biological threats to buffel grass pastures e.g www.mla.com.au/contentasset...

The La Grange water allocation statement has been released (see comments). This area supports complex, culturally important groundwater’s dependent ecological communities. In line with global trends it reveals that most of the groundwater allocation has been snapped up but yet to be used.
