So sad to hear that Alex Wheatle - celebrated author and ‘Brixton Bard’ - has passed on. Such an inspiring man, with a golden heart. His novel Brixton Rock was a masterpiece. Rest in peace King 👑 www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

'More In Common' claim the Left are more dogmatic than the Far Right, but when questioned about this on Novara Media, they said the Right were not a big enough group to measure last time they looked, in 2020.

I used to look forward to @tribunemagazine.bsky.social arriving. I’ve written for them. But no longer, after publisher Bhaskar Sunkara backed Trump’s attack on DEI. I will keep my subs for now as I wait for articles taking a different position. Maybe next edition? tribunemag.co.uk/author/leste...

It was a pleasure to speak to students at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, today.

I was talking about why stories matter to society, and our individual/collective power to contest narratives.

I also discussed my role at Homerton College, Cambridge, and the mission/values of Homerton.

The quote from the NHS spokesperson at the end of this article highlights what the problem is. The NHS claimed 9 out of 10 Black people are happy with their cancer treatment, despite the fact that the survey clearly shows only 71% do, 5% less than white patients.

If businesses can’t afford to pay the lowest-paid a survivable wage and worker benefits, they can’t afford those workers. That’s how capitalism works. A business earns money and pays their workers for achieving that.

Today is the second day of #Kwanzaa. The principle today is #Kujichagulia (Swahili for self-determination), representing the desire for peoples of African descent to define and speak for ourselves.

Celebrating all workers in this Christmas & New Year festive season. May you be appreciated by customers and bosses alike, and remunerated fairly.

However, as @the-tuc.bsky.social points out, many of these workers are in low-paid precarious jobs >> morningstaronline.co.uk/article/spar...
