I have also found that a lot of bike/pedestrian conflict is caused by the danger posed by cars, where cyclists are having to choose between the risk of being hit by cars or the risk of hitting a pedestrian, and so better infrastructure reduces those conflicts

I have actually done the math on this and the 250ish lbs of me + my bike going 20mph would have about the same force if I hit a pedestrian as a Honda civic going like 5 mph but also it would suck way more for me than the driver of a Honda civic and also my top speed on flat ground is ~15 mph

The way I am interpreting this is drivers stopped killing themselves by being incredibly stupid, but populations whose safety depends on infrastructure are still not any safer because the infrastructure isn’t much better
