I hate his guts but the number of press conferences from Trump is genuinely refreshing after 4 years of Biden.

Gender is certainly a one dimensional spectrum.

you claim that mainstream, non intra-democratic party criticism of DEI is fundamentally White Supremacist. His reading is a legitimate reading of the text

Source on this?

I mean, he’s right in a sense. Even the poorest country can and should enforce first generation human rights, but will be unable to enforce second generation human rights. Maybe second generation rights should just be goals?

I wish these weren’t behind a paywall, or at least came out from the paywall after a few days.

Oh my god you people. Fetterman could be the difference between RFK jr. getting confirmed or not. I’d rather have moderate Democrats in office than a Republican. Every bit we can claw the country to the left of the GOP is a victory. We can’t afford to die on our principles, not with a 2 party system
December 13, 2024 at 7:08 AM
Guys, if Fetterman wasn’t in there you’d have a MAGA Republican who’d say yes to every appointment. He’s keeping a seat Democratic in a state which Kamala lost!

If someone doesn’t want to share, that’s fine. But it’s totally fine to ask.

I think that to have a functioning society and community, we ought to be entitled to know things about eachother’s lives. Especially at the most local level.

I mean, I think a both a child’s gender and sex are important pieces of information to be known in a supporting community. Absent the person asking being a known Christian demagogue, they should know. For the same reason you would want a neighbor to know your child has a peanut allergy, or asthma
December 13, 2024 at 1:04 AM
I can imagine it happening, but I’d be extremely surprised if that happened in practice. I think we’re disagreeing about the amount of agency a very young child has to conceive of their role in society in a critical way. Esp since at that age they can’t really understand their original gender role

Gender is a fundamentally social thing. It involves facts about the body and how someone presents and wants to be perceived by others.
We can decide it's just too traumatic to ask someone about sex/gender, but it's fundamentally no different than asking someone if they opted for a natural birth.
December 13, 2024 at 12:41 AM
Look, people should have the individual right to reject their gender. But the assignments man and woman flow from basic material facts about the natural state of people's bodies. It would be peculiar for a child as young as the one in this comic to form a rejection of their own body independently.
December 13, 2024 at 12:36 AM
Yes, so for intersex people, the phrase ‘assigned male’ or ‘assigned female’ makes sense. It’s not fully accurate to portray them as biologically male or female.
This, however, isn’t what this comic is arguing for. This comic is arguing for assuming all children are non-binary until proven otherwise
December 13, 2024 at 12:24 AM
Then say they're intersex! People know if they're intersex.

The STAR people have the vibe of ‘we’re just exploring alternatives to winner take all’, but then run attack ads against the leading reform that could replace first past the post (ranked choice). Like, STAR is fine. Ultimately it’s very similar to ranked choice.

The STAR people said they had reached out to Dr. Masson but hadn’t heard back on where he got the very high number from. The Stephanoupolous paper identified only 3 out of several hundred.
June 29, 2024 at 3:00 AM
One beef I have with the STAR folks is the RCVchangedalaska.com site claims that 7% of RCV elections are Condorcet failure based on an unsourced quip from Eric Maskin. This figure is significantly higher than available analysis in the literature ( See Stephanopoulos). That stat should be taken down.

RCV is already complicated enough that it’s difficult to explain to some people. I think STAR is just too complicated to ever gain acceptance.

Did you watch the debate? Biden can’t really play President on tv anymore, Trump is still a great showman. Biden can barely get through a sentence without stumbling.
