I recently started working at the Magnes Collection. The other day I saw a newly acquired Haggadah from Metz, 1757. Designed like Talmud with core text and commentaries. Wine stains. Gives me the chills

it’s not writer’s block
it’s a choice

this poem in my chest
has grown fangs

and I can’t decide:
should I let it eat me

or let it eat you?

In Judaism we talk about “disagreements for the sake of heaven.”

In the Talmud, when matters of Jewish law can’t be resolved on the page, there’s a cute acronym that’s basically, “someday Elijah the prophet will show up and tell us who won but until then 🤷”

Not all disagreements are bad or wrong.

Very disturbing development in the recent explosion of online antisemitism, this time with the blessing & support of the Chinese government.

I don't think we've fully absorbed the power of internationalized bigotry spread through the internet. The usual national dynamics are less and less relevant.
Opinion | Fueling online antisemitism is China’s new tool against the West
Antisemitism is on the rise in China, with Chinese authorities stoking the flames.

@readinstead.bsky.social Hi! It was my turn to facilitate the poetry deep-dive. I chose your brilliant poem 'contextualizing...'. We spent a wonderful 1/2 hr discussing the poem, how it does what it does, etc. I sent 5 photos to the group to choose 1. Led 3 prompts to dump ideas, then time to write.
