I’m a retired minister of The United Church of Canada, fascinated by astronomy, geology, fungi, and committed to social and racial justice. Unknown roads thrill me.
Thank you to everyone for posting these pictures. They make me smile on a cold, wet, chilly day that has seen snow, sleet, fog and rain in southern Ontario. Your posts take me back to my foraging and exploring days in northern Manitoba. And may all of you enjoy this holy season.

I think the idea of an Advent Art Calendar is wonderful. Here is a collage I made of many of the fungal drawings I did across Canada.

As much as an oncologist will say - I have graduated from Cancer! The reality of that thrills me, shakes me. I want to dance and sing and twirl about. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for me, made me laugh, put up with my obsession with cancer, and used medical skills.

Thought I lost everything due to an update but now it's back and again I don't know why. Is there any point in trying to use this app? I feel like I'm in kindergarden and trying to learn the alphabet. Must be an age thing.

emerging boulders, branches, holes and frost heaves. Surface soft. Note to self: do not take a city car on an ATV trail. But I got turned around where someone had stored a large boat on a gravel bed. Big smile. Next I went to a proper conservation area with a real road. Lesson learned.

Old Woman on the Road drove on known roads today to find a place in the forest to get beyond the edge of her skin. The first trail off the known road was fascinating and clearly marked "Road not maintained. Use at own risk". It meant it. This Old Woman does not back up well. Narrow road, soft edges

This Old Woman wanted to drive to Newfoundland and Labrador this summer but getting my book published, learning how to promote it pushing past my insecurity, plus heat waves and forest fires, meant I had to stay home (more or less). But Haliburton forests - Wow!

A small forest fire is 20km north of where I live. The last size reported is 27 hectares. I spoke with a friend in Thompson MB last night and their fire 7 km away was 18,000 hectares. The numbers are always changing as the fires burn. The smoke goes every where.

The launch of This Is About Life was lots of fun Many people stopped to talk and buy. Even people who didn't know me bought it! Later in the day one woman phoned me to say that she couldn't stop reading it and expected to be up all night. What comes next? Wait and see.

The Republicans from Wisconsin and Minnesota are calling on Canada to do something to stop wildfires and ruining their summer have said that with all today's technology it is possible. Yes it is. Stop global climate change. What is the US doing about that? They are laughable.

I am getting excited. This Is About Life is nearing a publishing date. Woohoo!

The strongest form of resistance to that which aims to destroy what is good, is to continue being creative, respectful, and enjoying life as much as you can. That can keep hope alive and show the way through evil without giving in to it.
