This is an alt-Victorian novel that takes its time w characterization, setting, & some intrigue. It also has best opening and closing lines…Dusty reminds me of Peter Nimble so yes, I’ll be back for book 2 w adjusted expectations.
Bonus points for subtle queer rep & clever inclusion of menstruation

This first book is only the beginning, the hatched & liberated ‘dragon’ only coming into play at the very end & nowhere near this size. It’s not “full of” creatures beyond mostly cruel &/or self-serving humans. It has the capacity in-world to harbor fantastical encounters.
