This sounds hopeful from Jim Mackey in HSJ re shifting funding to community based services that prevent admissions. If achieved, this will help efforts to reduce the impact of cancer & its treatment, through preventative & proactive care that improves QoL & reduces crises & use of hospital beds

@fabiogomes-go.bsky.social (Christie) described the risks of undertreatment & overtreatment in cancer care for older people. Christie has Senior Adult Oncology service but other service models possible. Strong evidence that Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment is effective at ⬇️ toxicity #UKASCC25

Great early morning session at #UKASCC conference. Particularly liked the description of a Supportive Oncology service in USA (Declan Walsh) but also how much effort (including fundraising) has to be made to keep services running - lessons to be learned for UK in trying to improve care

Superb programme. The Patient Voices Panel was an incredible and humbling start.
One had been dealing with #PelvicRadiationDisease for many years and had seen many professionals but said “Everyone’s clueless and it makes you feel awful”
