3 authors for you: Grey Tuttle, the Tibetan History Reader and his other books, Warren Smith, Tibetan Nation - which is a comprehensive history so from the beginning to the end of 20th century and not sure if this what your looking for but Glen Mullin, the fourteen Dalai Lamas.
