Whoops! I spelt Larus argentatus wrong, my apologies. The one above is standing in front of The Golden Hind replica in Brixham harbour.

I grew up with Herring gulls (Larus argentstus) in Brixham, Devon I thought "Ring species!". Seems that they are part of the "Herring gull complex" & are so close genetically they're considered a single species, whilst being circumpolar, their variations are more complicated than a simple ring.

Instantly all my alarm bells go off!
