Canva’s data collection is extensive. Their privacy policy (www.canva.com/policies/pri...) shows they gather user data through others and external sources, and share it with ad and social media partners. Affinity was the privacy-focused alternative to Adobe. Now it follows Facebook’s business model.

This page explains how Canva collects and uses the information that we collect about you when you use the Service. This policy also explains the choices that you can make about the way that we use you...

I don’t think it’s about outsourcing being bad, but about preserving Apple users’ privacy.

Have you had a look at the new Affinity’s app privacy policy? They gather personal, professional, and even location data, then mix it with information pulled from social media and data brokers. Then share all of it with advertisers, AI training systems, law enforcement, and more. RIP Affinity :(

The option to pay to remove ads could help lessen the impact. I could see it being included in Apple One. Still, it does feel like “the loss of an otherwise unblemished service” to me. Let’s hope you’re right and it does more good than bad.

Sure, ads don’t always mean invasive tracking, but those don’t bring in as much revenue. With that kind of return, is it really worth ruining the premium experience? True premium media is something you pay for, while ad-supported media that’s free for everyone is the opposite of premium.

To me, ads not only undermine the premium quality of Apple’s products and services, but they also mark a step toward data tracking for marketing purposes, something Apple has been an oasis from so far, but now risks compromising.

I noticed the reading quality is even better on my iPad Pro M4 than on my iPhone 14 Pro when using Listen to Page. Maybe there's some Apple Intelligence at work… 🤔

Oh yeah, you’re right! I guess it didn’t work for me because I opened it in Private mode.

Glad to hear about Pixel Pals in this episode! I look forward to what new features Christian Selig will add to it on iOS 17 with Interactive Widgets.
