You make some thought-provoking points. Can an American writer cross time and space to write the voices of the Vietnamese women in that war? We do have imagination and empathy, but could a Vietnamese writer get closer to those lives?
I’m much the same age as the main character, opposed that war.

Agreed, it’s very much about the American experience. I think the author is writing about the disappearance of the female voice, in the Vietnam war story as in so much of history.
